Chapter 10
âJosephine, really? You couldnât have told me that?â
Angelo smiled as Will let him into his house. It had been a while since Angelo and Will had hung out together at the farm. For a long time, Angelo had often come out for dinner with Will and Vinnie, but lately Will had mostly been coming to the pub instead. Now that Sophie spent more time at the farm than she did at her own place, theyâd invited Angelo over for dinner. Heâd have to get used to it going from just him, Will and Vinnie to now having a fourth person, but he figured it wouldnât take long. Sophie was a lovely person, and good for Will and his daughter. She was family now.
And considering Josephine was good friends with Sophie, it was only natural Will would have eventually heard who he was seeing. Or rather, had been. He hadnât heard from Josephine all week. He figured she was still trying to figure out the family feud business. In truth, so was he. It wasnât often one came across this kind of situation, and even rarer when it had to do with your own family. But the frustrating thing was that it had happened so long ago, and his father obviously hadnât felt strongly about it or Angelo would have known. If anything, that only told him that the situation had been resolved. But Luigiâs reaction said otherwise.
âWell, it doesnât really matter nowââ
Angelo stopped as he heard the ripple of laughter coming from the kitchen. Heâd recognise that laugh anywhere. Josephine was here. His heart skipped a beat, his palms growing sweaty. Heâd taken Josephineâs lack of contact to mean that sheâd given up on them. Theyâd left things with him saying she knew where to find him. She hadnât found him since then. He shot his friend a look, and Will gave an awkward shrug.
âIt was Sophieâs idea to get both of you around. How could I argue?â
âRight.â
How could he argue, indeed. Far be it for Angelo to argue with Sophie either. The woman was a force to be reckoned with. He took in a shaky breath, wiping his sweaty palms on his jeans. Well. Best to get it over with then.
Will waved a hand towards the lounge room for Angelo to go in while he got him a drink. Angelo went into the room to see the girls gathered on the couch, a glass of wine already in their hands, and a platter of fruit, crackers and Willâs homemade goat cheese on the coffee table. The moment he saw the back of Josephineâs head, her long dark hair trickling in waves over her shoulders, the breath left his body. Simply being in the same room as her did things to him. Then his mouth went dry as he reminded himself that sheâd made no effort to talk to him all week. What if she didnât want to see him?
Sophieâs eyes connected with his over Josephineâs head and she smiled nervously.
